Virtualization Orchestration 2020

VON20.COM is a Technology Forum for the evolutionary trends in Telecommunications and this forum tracks the developments 2020 and beyond.

5G Prospects

5G can be viewed as a conglomerate of access and network solutions. Device physics, RAT and Backhaul pose major challenge, but core network need also to be radically redesigned.

VoLTE Progression

VoLTE gains momentum if it comes with an application suite around operators IMS and SPIT offerings

Emerging OSS

The voice RPM portion of the Average revenue per user (ARPU) is decreasing, and the aggressive Data monetization is inevitable

Small Cell Networks at the Edge

small cell networks could become an underlay network for the macro network at the edge.

CosmoCom - Evolutionary Contact Center Solution

Unified Communications is the cutting edge application at this point of Packet Telephony’s evolution. IP has made all aspects of Communications (Voice, Video, Messaging etc) to be unified. CosmoCom extended the Unified Communications concept to Contact Center solution by its evolutionary concepts of Unified CustomerCommunication and Consolidation 2.0

VN: How essential are Unified Contact Center Solutions in today’s globalization?

Steve Kowarsky: Unified Contact Center Solutions are certainly desirable in the light of globalization, for many obvious reasons. What makes anything “essential” in business is keeping up with competition. As companies realize the cost and quality benefits of unified platforms like CosmoCom’s, we will reach the point where such platforms can truly be called “essential.”

Comment to FCC -New Spectrum for BB Wireless

VON20.com felt the need to respond to FCC's public notice on New Spectrum for Broadband Wireless.

.ShoreTel - Enriched Voice Experience For Enterprises

ShoreTel is an unquestionable leader of the IP PBX Industry. The end User experience is so rich and facilitating that it is a true VON 2.0 System. .

VN: ShoreTel has a niche market among the SME Customers. Are there plans to grow into more Verticals?

Ed Basart: We observe that we are increasing in the number of verticals. A few years ago one could only pick out 2 or 3. There are half a dozen or more now. We are strongest in services organizations, education, financial services and professional services. We also see increased buying by large enterprises, which are those above 400 users.

Aruba Networks - Adaptive WLAN Solution

Voice over WLAN is a Voice over Net 2.0 application. Aruba has the best VoWLAN solution. Aruba is going to ride the VON2.0 wave.

VN: Compared to Wired Ethernet, WLAN is growing exponentially. ‘Desktop Gigabit Ethernet’, which was touted as the next big thing in enterprise networking has not seen much traction, whereas 802.11 deployments are into 4 generation with Aruba already deploying 802.11n. What is driving this growth?

Keerthi Melkote: The growth is being driven by social and economic forces that are making ours an increasingly mobile workforce. Mobility allows resources to be allocated and distributed as needed, and helps keep down costs by enabling virtual offices and teleworkers. The key is enabling mobile workers to remain securely connected to the enterprise.

WiFi Track

VN: Do we see VoWLAN Deployments reaching critical mass very soon?

Peter Thornycroft: A recent estimate pegged the enterprise WLAN industry at $1.3bn in 2007. That is already a sizable market. But there are still many opportunities for growth, as I mentioned earlier.
